Peace and recreation at Austria´s largest lake

The lake is calmly resting. Podersdorf´s winter fairy tales

about the most silent season at Austria´s largest lake.

No shorts, no beach parties, though endless time for walks in a landscape that is suddenly totally different than in the hot summer months. Winter in Podersdorf is calm. Soothing. And full of little surprises. And yes, you will need a really thick sweater, because now the winter is really chilly.

There may be temperatures under -15°C during winter season at Lake Neusiedl, so it can be very cold. In addition, there is persistent and often icy wind. Luckily, you can warm up in our numerous restaurants. After all, eating is something we do all year long. When it gets really cold, the lake rapidly freezes and ice skaters show up. And what´s that? Some of the beach boys unpack their sails again and turn into ice sailors and ice surfers speeding over the largest ice surface of Central Europe.

Christmas time at Lake Neusiedl

Every weekend in the pre-Christmas season there are numerous Christmas markets around Lake Neusiedl, where people sell roasted almonds, chestnuts and hot punch to get young and old into the Christmas mood.

EXPERIENCING WINTER IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WAY.

In contrast to the hustle and bustle of the mountainous region, Lake Neusiedl offers peace and recreation to its visitors. But also the sports people have their proper place. Skiing could be difficult to do, admittedly. However, if you like Nordic Walking, you will find here what you need most of all: lots of space.

Should there be snow too the hiking paths along the vineyards around the lake can be used for cross-country skiing. While walking, you will enjoy a stunning view and a romantic landscape, surprising discoveries in nature and lots of recreation; everything you hope for in winter.
