Crazy world record in Podersdorf am See: Rainer Predl runs marathon in mini laps - 1000 euros for a good cause

Podersdorf, 12 May 2025 - On Mother's Day yesterday, the Podersdorf lighthouse became the stage for a unique sporting spectacle: extreme athlete Rainer Predl completed a full marathon - in an incredible 3516 mini laps of 12 meters each around the lighthouse. Numerous visitors watched the action from the jetty and greeted Predl with cheers at every lap - Predl was even cheered on by the anchored ferry and passing sailing boats. He completed the last lap after 5 hours 37 minutes and 29 seconds. Tired? Not at all. He joked with his team and the fans right to the end. "The challenge was bigger than I thought, I run much faster on the road," said Predl after crossing the finish line. "The narrowness of the lap, which was only 12 meters long, really got to me - I got really dizzy at times." But once again, the extreme marathon runner proved that no project is too crazy for him if it serves a good cause.

A total of 1000 euros was raised in donations - the entire amount will go to the Sterntalerhof children's hospice in Kitzladen in southern Burgenland. Visitors were also able to enjoy wines from Podersdorf's winegrowers, which were served for a voluntary donation.

Podersdorf Tourism Managing Director Rene Lentsch was also delighted: "We are delighted that Podersdorf was able to host this extraordinary project. It's great to see how sport, humanity and our region come together in such an impressive way. The fact that we were also able to make a contribution to a charitable cause makes us particularly proud."

With projects like these, Rainer Predl uses his athletic endurance and media reach for more than just records. As an ambassador for Sterntalerhof, he regularly sets an example - whether in the desert, in the jungle or on a tight circuit at the Podersdorf lighthouse.
