Shimmering soda lakes, huge reed beds, mysterious marshes - the Lake Neusiedl-Seewinkel region is rich in fascinating wetlands. Here dragonflies cavort with glassy wings, tree frogs climb in the willow thickets and birds slip through the whispering reeds - a world to discover.

Excursions through the National Park give visitors an insight into the special features of the Lake Neusiedl-Seewinkel natural area. 

In 1993, the Lake Neusiedl-Seewinkel National Park was founded. Seven municipalities have a share in it. The Fertö-Hanság Nemzeti Park had already existed on the Hungarian side since 1991. The protected area, which now covers a total of around 300 km², is not only the first cross-border national park in Austria, but also the first to be internationally recognized by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources). 

The national park area is divided into six areas: Apetlon - Lange Lacke, Illmitz-Hölle, Podersdorf - Karmazik, Sandeck-Neudegg, Waasen-Hanság and Zitzmannsdorfer Wiesen.
