About us

The inn "zur Dankbarkeit" was founded by my great-grandfather (1881 - 1958). He learned his trade in the years 1897 to 1900 in Vienna. After many journeyman years in Vienna, he lost all his savings during the war and inflation years. In 1924, he opened the "Josef Lentsch" inn in Podersdorf, in his home community, in an apartment building in Seestraße. In 1934 he acquired the house that is still in our possession today, which was originally built by the Cistercian monks and also served as a hostel for a Prussian count. This house was adapted as an inn and since that time it has been called "Zur Dankbarkeit". Since in those years there was no tourism in the Seewinkel, a second mainstay was absolutely necessary. So my great-grandfather was engaged in winegrowing from the very beginning. The wine was served in the inn and sold to excursion guests, mostly from Vienna.

In 1959 my grandfather Josef Lentsch (1926 - 2001) took over the inn. When tourism took off in the 60s, the inn was renovated and expanded. The winery was also modernized and expanded. In the 70's, when "Hawaiian steak" dominated the Burgenland menus, my grandfather was a co-founder of the Burgenland - Panonnian cuisine, offering a welcome alternative for gourmets. With this regional cuisine, one recalled grown values in the local cuisine and the products of the region.

Since 1989, DANKBARKEIT has been continued by my father. With great attention to detail, he has also renovated the inn and tries to give the house back some of its original character and flair. His primary goal is to bring you closer to the Seewinkel region in terms of cuisine, tradition and customs, and to offer you a few hours of relaxation in an uncomplicated inn atmosphere. A crucial point is the use of local products and this not only for current reasons but out of conviction. With many producers and suppliers we often already have a decades-long cooperation.

Since 2020 I have taken over the business from my father. My primary goal is also to pass on the Pannonian cuisine with the great variety of local products. First and foremost, we try to select the products regionally.
